Roger Federer: “It’s over, but…”

Roger Federer’s career has come to an end: the Swiss Maestro said goodbye to tennis, but explained how everything he received from the Game was incredible.

Roger told: “I can’t wait to play my last game. Obviously I will miss many things, but I made the right choice.” As I said, at the beginning of the summer I tried to take a step forward in training and I saw that the knee was not responding well.

I accepted that it was not going to be easy and that it was part of the process, but at a certain point I realized that it made no sense to insist. It was over. I didn’t want to push myself to the limit, that was never the goal. I am very happy with what I have achieved.

After winning my 15th Grand Slam at Wimbledon, everything else was a bonus. Pete Sampras was in the stands that day and it was a very special moment. Carlos Alcaraz? Unfortunately, I will not be able to play against him. What he did at the US Open was incredible. I was pleased with his words. I thank him and wish him the best for his career. ”

Roger says goodby to tennis

There was a lot of anticipation for the last match of Roger Federer’s career. The former world number 1 will say goodbye to professional tennis at the end of the Laver Cup, held at the O2 Arena in London from 23-25 ā€‹ā€‹September.

Barring sensational and unlikely twists, the King will only play double on Friday evening. His partner should be Rafael Nadal, as the Swiss revealed during the press conference held on Wednesday morning.

The last two and a half years have put a strain on Roger’s body and mind, who has not been able to play as and as much as he would have liked due to a severe right knee injury. The three operations he underwent did not solve the problem, even if the Maestro never abandoned the desire to return to the field.

Earlier this summer, the 41-year-old from Basel realized it was time to hang up his racquet.
