Andy Murray voices disappointment after Great Britain’s Davis Cup exit

Andy Murray was visibly disappointed after Great Britain suffered a loss that sealed their Davis Cup fate.

After losing to the United States in their first match, Great Britain also lost to the Netherlands after falling short in the decisive rubber.

In the deciding rubber of the Great Britain and Netherlands match, Murray and Joe Salisbury suffered a three-set defeat as Wesley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop won 7-6 (0) 6-7 (6) 6-3.

“Obviously I would love to have the return back at 3-3 and break point,” Murray said, per Tennis365. I hit the tape. I hit a pretty clean return but should have maybe not hit it as big. We got off to an amazing start in the first set and probably could have gone up a couple of breaks. And they are the moments you look back on. It just sucks because these matches have come down to a few points and they’ve not gone our way. I have been fortunate to play a lot of these matches over the years and come through them. That hasn’t happened this time around and I feel sad about that, because I think we had the possibility to have a really good run here.”

Murray: I don’t how many more chances I’ll have

Two nights earlier, Great Britain fell short to the United States after Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock defeated Murray and Salisbury in three sets.

With no chance to make it past the Davis Cup Finals group stage, Great Britain’s match versus Kazakhstan will be pretty meaningless for the home side in Glasgow.

Murray, 35, was extremely disappointed as he admitted that he may not get another chance to compete in the Davis Cup.

“Obviously when you get to my age and this stage of your career, I don’t know how many opportunities I’ll get to still be part of this team. We’ve got obviously a lot of depth now in the singles and the doubles,” Murray said.
