Charleston Open: Ons Jabeur sets title showdown against Belinda Bencic

Ons Jabeur moved into the final of the Charleston Open after winning an oscillating three-setter against 15th seed Amanda Anisimova in the semi-finals. The fourth seed came from a set down and then a break down in the decider to win, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 in 106 minutes.

Jabeur won 67% of her first-serve points to the American’s 60% and 43% of her second-serve points to the latter’s 34%. She went on to save 11 of the 15 break points she faced while converting six of the 13 break points she had on Anisimova’s serve.

In the previous edition of the tournament – held by Credit Open – in 2021, Jabeur reached the semi-finals. Speaking about having a good run at the venue, the Tunisian said, “For some reason, I love playing on this clay. It’s always fun to play here. The people have great energy. Again, I lost in the semi-final and the finals last year, but I always want to get a title here.”

Charleston Open: Belinda Bencic outplays Ekaterina Alexandrova

In the final, Jabeur will take on 10th seed Belinda Bencic. The Swiss had a much more straightforward win against Ekaterina Alexandrova, claiming a 6-4, 6-3 victory in 78 minutes.

Bencic won 75% of her first-serve points and 68% of her second-serve points. In comparison, Alexandrova won 69% of her first-serve points and only 35% of her second-serve points. In terms of break-point conversion, Bencic converted three break points on Alexandrova’s serve while saving two of the three break points, she faced.

This is the Swiss’ first final in a WTA event played on clay. Talking about her milestone post-match, Bencic said, “I’m happy this moment came. I didn’t think it would. But super happy with how I played today. I thought it was a great match, (in) tough conditions.”

Meanwhile, the Charleston Open final between Ons Jabeur and Belinda Bencic will be the second time the two will be playing against each other. Bencic won their last match at the 2021 Mutua Madrid Open, albeit via retirement.
