Anke Huber: “Emma Raducanu better than Nick Kyrgios”

Nick Kyrgios and Emma Raducanu, for quite different reasons, are two of the most popular tennis players on the tennis circuit. On the one hand we have Australian talent, often unspoken and known for its bizarre releases on and off the pitch.

On the other hand we have the very young and talented 18-year-old, who exploded after her sensational victory at the last US Open in 2021. The British won a Grand Slam title without having ever played a WTA match before and won fans and sponsors in no time.

Former tennis player Anke Huber, a finalist at the 1996 Australian Open, spoke of the two tennis players, declaring that personalities like Kyrgios are not needed on the women’s Tour. Nick is a very controversial athlete, appreciated in some ways and criticized in others.

Only a few days ago, in the Masters 1000 in Miami, he was the protagonist of a sensational dispute with the judge of the chair Bernardes, in the match against the young ItalianĀ talent Jannik Sinner. Kyrgios, infuriated by an arbitration decision, literally exploded and suffered first a Penalty point and then in the Penalty game, in the match anyway then lost.

Huber on Kyrgios and Raducanu

Huber released the following statements to Eurosport’s microphones: “Kyrgios makes a show, he often does what John McEnroe did on the court. I think it’s her ploy to keep her interest fixed on him, but I don’t think that this can be useful for women’s tennis. Maybe it makes things more interesting, but I think a character like Emma Raducanu can do good in women’s tennis, I think pretty better than Kyrgios.”

Recently Nick Kyrgios tweeted in defense of Emma Raducanu. After the victory of the US Open 2021 the British went through and still goes through a period of crisis.Ā Because of this, several tennis players from the past, such as Kim Clijsters and Daniela Hantuchova, attacked the tennis player.

Kyrgios defended Emma by attacking Hantuchova among other things. Here is her tweet: “What happens, I see that several former tennis players attack the current champions. I love some of these, I think of Andy Roddick, but I have read the words of a former player of the past and I believe that already now Raducanu she won more than she ever did.”
