Serena Williams cries on-court telling Venus the reason she “ever existed”

Serena Williams, during her on-court interview following her career-ending US Open match against Ajla Tomljanovic, got emotional while thanking Venus for making her what she is today, a legend.

And as two stars in the sky would twinkle at each other, the eyes full of tears of both Serena and Venus intersected.

“I wouldn’t be Serena if there wasn’t Venus. So, thank you Venus. She’s the only reason Serena Williams ever existed,” Serena said.

Serena Williams’ professional tennis career was ended on Friday evening at the 2022 US Open by Ajla Tomljanovic. After three hours and five minutes of play, the Australian defeated the six-time former US Open champion 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-1.

Unlike in the first two matches, when Williams’ serve had paved the way for her, it was constantly under pressure against Tomljanovic. There were also times when she found herself stranded on the court, unable to respond to Tomljanovic’s shots.

The Australian had 32 winners, compared to the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s 49. However, Serena had 51 unforced errors, which was equal to the latter’s 30. Serena Williams had an emotional and tearful farewell to the Tour following the result while Ajla Tomljanovic will face Liudmila Samsonova in the second week of the US Open. In their third-round match, Samsonova defeated Aleksandra Krunic 6-3, 6-3.

Venus recently said Serena is “the boss:

Asked whose idea was for the Williams sisters to play doubles at the US Open, Venus told the press, in a funny way, that it was Serena’s plan. “It was Serena’s idea. She’s the boss, so I do whatever she tells me to do.

I don’t think we’ve played since 2016, but might be getting that wrong. So we had some great wins. It would be nice to add some more,” said Venus Williams during a press conference.
