“Roger Federer will do it in 2023,” said René Stauffer

René Stauffer, RogerFederer’s biographer, focused on the fate of the Swiss in an exclusive relaxed interview with Clay Tennis.

He told: “I don’t think he will retire to Basel. It would make no sense to be operated on and undergo a long rehabilitation to play just one tournament and greet everyone. If he is fit when he returns, he will keep playing.

No doubt he will do it in 2023. If things don’t work out, he’ll think of the right way to say goodbye. Maybe he’ll organize a game in front of 50,000 spectators, like the one played in Cape Town, or a world tour to say hello to everyone.

He won’t do it in Basel. He worked hard, he did everything very carefully. He has an excellent athletic trainer like Pierre Paganini, a good doctor. And, above all, he really wants to come back. Last year he was not in the best physical shape of him and still reached the round of 16 at the Roland Garros and the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.

I think he will come back to compete for the public, because they enjoy watching him play. He wants to play in that incredible atmosphere, to feel those feelings again. Will there be a third biographical book? I don’t know if there will be much more to add to his career. He will probably want to tell his story about him. He could rely on a famous writer, as did Andre Agassi.”

Roger Federer is ready

Roger Federer is back to training on the court and the images posted on his Instagram account on August 21st have thrilled all tennis fans. The Swiss was forced to undergo a new knee operation and played his last official match at Wimbledon in 2021.

Federer’s goal is to take the field in 2022 at the Laver Cup and the ATP 500 tournament in Basel and then focus on next season. The question marks about the future of the Swiss are unfortunately still numerous, because everything will depend on the physical conditions that characterize his commitments and his athletic preparation.
