Venus Williams reveals Serena dragged her into US Open doubles: “She’s the boss”

Asked whose idea was for the Williams sisters to play doubles at the US Open, Venus told the press, in a funny way, that it was Serena’s plan.

“It was Serena’s idea. She’s the boss, so I do whatever she tells me to do. I don’t think we’ve played since 2016, but might be getting that wrong. So we had some great wins. It would be nice to add some more,” said Venus Williams during a press conference.

Serena and Venus Williams will begin their US Open doubles campaign against Czech Republic’s Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova.

The US Open officials announced on Saturday that the Williams sisters have accepted a main draw wildcard into the doubles tournament. The Williams sisters will compete against Hradecka and Noskova in the first round of the US Open for the first time since 2018.

Hradecka and Noskova will make their team debut when they face the Williams sisters in the first round of the US Open. Hradecka, 37, is one of her country’s most seasoned players. On the other hand, Noskova, 17, is one of her country’s most promising players.

Williams sisters’ doubles Grand Slam record

The Williams sisters have 14 Grand Slam doubles championships between them, so they know what it takes to win a Grand Slam. To top it all off, the Williams sisters are 14-0 in Grand Slam doubles finals.

Serena will retire after the US Open this year, but Venus has made no public statements. Venus stated before of the US Open that nothing has changed in Serena’s attitude and that her younger sister still wants to win.

“It’s still business, she still wants to play, she still wants to win, when she walks on the court she wants to be focused — so this is the moment now for her to do that, like all the other moments, and then when that moment is over, then the next moment will be here.

So that’s what it is,” Venus said on US morning show TODAY.

Regarding singles, Venus lost in the first round of the US Open against Alison Van Uytvanck while Serena got past Danka Kovinic.
