Iga Swiatek opens on life as new world No. 1

Polish tennis superstar Iga Swiatek has admitted it will take her time to get adjust to the life as the world No. 1 but she is happy to be going through an experience like this.Ā

This Monday, Swiatek officially became the world No. 1 for the first time in her career.Ā

“So, here we are. One day I’m just 100 percent focused on my performance during another match and the next day I’m realizing how to live as No. 1. It’s a lot to take in and I’m working through it day by day at my own pace. It will take some time but on the other hand I’m very excited. There last few weeks were interesting, crazy and hard-core but I’m happy that I was also able to have some quality time in Miami after the final. Now it’s time to get back to work,” Swiatek wrote in a message posted on her Twitter account.Ā

Swiatek replaced Ashleigh Barty at the No. 1 spot

Prior to the 2022 season, Swiatek’s previous career-high ranking was the No. 4 spot.Ā

After winning the Indian Wells Masters, Swiatek rose to No. 2 in the world.Ā

Still, the difference between Swiatek and Barty was over 2,000 points.Ā

The day after Swiatek reached the No. 2 spot, Barty announced her retirement from tennis.Ā

During her retirement press conference, Barty confirmed she would request the WTA to remove her name from the rankings list.Ā

This Monday, the WTA rankings list got updated for the first time since Barty retired.Ā

Barty’s name is no longer on the list and Swiatek is the new world No. 1.Ā

Many believe that Swiatek has deserved to be the new world No. 1 as she has won her last 17 matches and won three consecutive titles.Ā

Swiatek was scheduled to start her clay season this week in Charleston but she pulled out of the event.Ā
