Amanda Anisimova delivered a dominant performance in the Charleston quarterfinal to beat CoCo Vandeweghe and set up an Ons Jabeur semifinal.
Anisimova, ranked at No. 47 in the world, dominated Vandeweghe 6-1 6-2 to reach her first Charleston semifinal.
“It was super fun playing tonight,” Anisimova said, after the match, per the WTA Tour website. “I love night matches, so I was really enjoying it out there today.”
Anisimova now has a tough task ahead of her as she faces next world No. 10 Jabeur.
“[Jabeur is] an amazing player,” Anisimova said of Jabeur ahead of the match. “I think it’s really fun to watch her. She has a lot of variety in her game, so it’s definitely going to be tricky tomorrow. But I’ll just try and stay focused and be expecting some long rallies.”
Anisimova, Jabeur set to meet for the first time
On Friday, Anisimova absolutely crushed Vandeweghe.
The two players were tied at one game apiece after the opening two games of the match, before Anisimova claimed back-to-back breaks to win five games in a row and win the first set in style.
After winning the first set, Anisimova made a strong start to the second set as she took an early 2-0 lead.
Anisimova then earned her fourth break of the match in the seventh game, before serving out for the match a game later.
Meanwhile, Jabeur defeated Anhelina Kalinina 6-3 6-2.
“I think [Kalinina] served good, but I returned well today,” Jabeur said after the match. “She had a good run also in Miami, so I think she’s a great player … She deserves a much better ranking, for sure.”
Anisimova and Jabeur will be meeting for the first time when they clash in the Charleston semifinal.
Anisimova is aiming to win her second title of the season in Charleston, while Jabeur is hoping to win her first title of the year this week.
