Iga Swiatek: “I would do a road trip with Rafael Nadal!”

Women’s tennis in 2022 had one and only dominator: Iga Swiatek. With Ashleigh Barty’s decision to retire, the Polish tennis player has become world number one. Not only other people’s decisions, however, but also her merits: the 2001-bornĀ tennis player has won all three of the WTA 1000s that have been scheduled so far:Ā Doha, Indian Wells and Miami.

Miami’s victory, in particular, came in the final against Naomi Osaka: in an hour and twenty of the match, Swiatek left her opponent only four games, all in the first set, winning the trophy with the final score of 6-4Ā 6-0.

A final that was a reflection of the entire path of the Pole, which she never lost a set during the whole tournament. On the occasion of the Miami Open, Iga Swiatek also got involved off the pitch.

In the confessional segment, Tennis Channel asked the world number one who would never want to go on a road trip with. Not wanting to answer in order not to be bad, she answered the opposite question: who would you do this kind of trip with?

Iga Swiatek: “I would do a road trip with Rafael Nadal!”

The winner of the Sunshine DoubleĀ Indian Wells and Miami, found it easier to answer the question: “Who would you go on a road trip with?” Swiatek’s first name on her travel companion is Rafael Nadal. The choice, therefore, fell on the one who the winner of the last Roland Garros has always indicated as her idol. Not only Spanish, however, among her choices.

Along with Nadal, there are two other names, however, coming from the women’s Tour. Swiatek has also chosen Bethanie Mattek-Sands, US doubles champion and winner of five Grand Slam doubles events.

The motivation is simple: “She and her husband always cook great food, so I would eat a lot, sure,” said the Polish girl. Another name, on the other hand, is her best friend, Kaja Juvan, the tennis player she grew up with.
