Going into the final, the experience of playing in big finals was absolutely on Tsitsipas’ side.

Tsitsipas took the advantage of his experience and opened up an early 4-1 lead.

Then, Coric broke Tsitsipas twice in the second set to complete a straight-set win.

ā€œIt was a very, very tough match. At the beginning I wasnā€™t playing very well and he was pushing me very hard. But I started to serve better and play better and I was fighting hard,ā€ Coric said. ā€œThen in the second set I thought I played the best set of the whole year.ā€

At the age of 25, Coric became a Masters champion for the first time in his career.

After the final, Coric took a moment to say a simple thank you to his team members.

ā€œThank you to my parents, who are not here, my sister and my team. It has been very tough for us,ā€ Coric added. ā€œWith my physio, if I didnā€™t have him I wouldnā€™t be on the court. Then of course to my tennis coach, Mate. We have been working very hard and now we are here.ā€
