Copa Colsanitas: Camila Osorio reaches last-eight; Beatriz Haddad Maia upset

Camila Osorio moved one more step closer to defending her title at the Copa Colsanitas on Thursday. The Colombian, who’s the top seed this week in Bogota came through a tough second-round match against Tunisia’s Ipek Oz, 6-3, 7-6(4) in an hour and 55 minutes.

Oz won slightly more points off her first serves as compared to Osorio – 63% to the latter’s 60% but Osorio did well when it came to winning points off second serves. The world no. 33 won 45% of her second-serve points to Oz’s 33%. Osorio also saved 10 of the 14 break points she faced while converting five of the eight break points she had on Oz’s serve.

In the quarter-finals, Osorio will play Elina Avanesyan who won her second-round match on Wednesday.

Copa Colsanitas: Beatriz Haddad Maia’s Colombian journey halted

The second seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, however, didn’t have a favourable second-round outing as she lost to Kamilla Rakhimova. Rakhimova claimed a comeback, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Haddad Maia in two hours and 35 minutes. 

The first set saw both players win a high margin of points off their first serves – Haddad Maia won 72% while Rakhimova, 78%. However, as the match progressed, Rakhimova was able to keep the number steady while Haddad Maia struggled to do the same. In the second set, Rakhimova won 63% of her first-serve points to the Brazilian’s 53% and in the third, she finished with 66% of first-serve points won to Haddad Maia’s 61%. Rakhimova lost her serve four times in the match – twice in the opening set and one each in the latter two sets. In comparison, she went on to break Haddad Maia’s serve five times, once in the first set and twice each in the final two sets. 

In the quarter-finals of Copa Colsanitas, Rakhimova will play Irina Bara. The Romanian came through a lopsided three-setter against the Netherlands’ qualifier, Suzan Lamens, 6-0, 0-6, 6-4 in an hour and 40 minutes.
