Emma Raducanu speaks on being in same draw as Serena Williams, Venus Williams

2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu says it is “amazing” to be in the same draw as Serena Williams and Venus Williams.

Raducanu, 19, is competing at this week’s National Bank Open in Toronto.

This week, the Williams sisters are together in the same draw for the first time since last year’s Wimbledon.

Raducanu, who is playing her first full season on the WTA Tour, acknowledged it is absolutely impressive for how long the Williams have been able to stay on top.

“It’s amazing being in the same draw as them. What they’ve done and how long they’ve been playing for at such a high level and keep pushing back. They don’t need to play tennis and they love it,” Raducanu said, per Lukas Weese.

Raducanu on reaching the Washington quarterfinal

Last week, Raducanu kicked off her summer on hard courts at the Citi Open in Washington.

There, Raducanu made the quarterfinal, before losing to eventual champion Liudmila Samsonova.

Even though Raducanu failed to lift her first title of the year last week, she was still glad with how her week in Washington went.

“It was a positive week to get three singles matches. It’s just nice to see some progress. Two weeks of training before and to get some reward for that,” Raducanu reflected.

Raducanu is considered as one of the most promising and talented players on the WTA Tour.

The extremely talented young core is led by Iga Swiatek, who went on a 37-match winning streak between February and July.

Besides Raducanu and Swiatek, 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez and this year’s French Open finalist Cori Gauff are also considered as young players who have the potential to do major things.

“I think it’s good to see so many of the younger players do so well. You see some do well and then it pushes you. It’s really good to have that competitiveness,” Raducanu said.
