Daniil Medvedev opens up on life on Tour, reflects on 2022

World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev admitted it took him some time to get adjusted to the conditions in Los Cabos but he was glad that he was able to find his game and enjoy a strong week at the Mexican hard-court tournament.

Medvedev, 26, kicked off his summer on hard courts in Los Cabos, where he was playing for the first time in his career.

In his debut, Medvedev made it all the way after beating Cameron Norrie in the final 7-5 6-0.

ā€œYou come here and the jet lag is a bit complicated the first few days, itā€™s not easy to adapt and the heat but now Iā€™m happy about the great tennis displayed all week and the tough matches won. Iā€™m happy. My goal still remains, I played good tennis thatā€™s the reason nobody beat me, or course they were difficult rivals,” Medvedev said, per the Los Cabos tournament website.

Medvedev on the life on the Tour

After losing four consecutive finals, Medvedev has finally clinched his first title of the year.

ā€œTennis is not an easy sport because even if you win and lose the following week, you tend to forget a little bit. But the good thing is that the next week you can change your season around and your life too. Like Cameron did in Indian Wells. I had lost four finals in a row and I needed to be better and you never know when itā€™s going to happen,ā€ Medvedev added.

Medvedev, who is preparing to defend his US Open title, reached the top spot for the first time in his career in late February.

There have been some great moments for Medvedev in 2022, but also some negative – like missing out on Wimbledon.

ā€œThis year has given me more experience and when I look back everything has been positive because you can always be better. My job is to play tennis and thatā€™s what matters to me the most,” Medvedev reflected.

Medvedev is now set to compete at the Montreal Masters.
