Emma Raducanu: “I felt too agitated”

Emma Raducanu has successfully passed the debut of the WTA in Washington, the first tournament in preparation for the fourth Grand Slam of the year. She is one of the main special spots for the American hardcourt season, given her triumph in the 2021 edition of the US Open.

The British wants to continue to grow on the field and achieve a satisfactory result to change her 2022, trying to dominate the pressure that has troubled her and has not allowed her to express herself at her best in recent months.

Emma Raducanu: “I felt too agitated”

The British girl opened up at the press conference and revealed some interesting details about her state of mind in the past tournaments:

“Regardless of what I said, I probably had certain expectations about myself, which were a bit distorted from reality.  Honestly, I’m accepting it more now. It won’t necessarily be easy to deal with this kind of situation but, to be honest, I’m 100% ready to start over.

If my ranking plummeted to 1000 or whatever, it wouldn’t interest me. I feel better now than right after the US Open and the beginning of this year. I know that, being the defending champion, I’ll somehow make my way up there again.

It may take some time, but I’m really accepting it and can’t wait to embark on whatever journey I may take. I think I definitely had moments in the opening game where I was playing good tennis but I was definitely nervous at first.

I think playing in the first round is always quite challenging. When you’re not in extreme confidence, the little things don’t necessarily go well. It is only important to remain calm. I can improve going forward in this tournament, hopefully already in the next round. There were a few moments when I was a little flustered but in the end I definitely reorganized and found a way out.”
