Ladies Open Lausanne: Warm vibes between Petra Martic and Olga Danilovic

After the match, speaking with the press, Martic said, “I think I played pretty consistent from the beginning until the end. Yesterday and the matches before, I couldn’t do that and I had a few drops. Today, I really tried to stay sharp and not let her get back in the match.”

The Croatian also talked highly of her younger-by-10-years opponent. “When I arrived here [in Lausanne] on the first day, it was the beginning of qualies; I came to check out the Center Court and the opening match was Olga. I was with my agent, and I told her, ‘I think this girl is going to be such a great player,’ and not only is she going to be, I think she already is. You already won a tournament like this, beaten me before, done so many nice things, and it’s only the beginning for you.”

Entering the final in the Swiss tournament, Danilovic had carried a 1-0 lead in her head-to-head against Martic after having won their 2021 Australian Open opening-round clash. Both players were, however, seeking to win a second WTA title. Following their highs at the Ladies Open Lausanne, both players made significant gains in their respective singles rankings. Petra Martic climbed 30 places and reached the 55th place on the ranking on 18th July, Monday while Olga Danilovic climbed 18 places and is poised to come back into the top 100, in the 106th spot.
