Nick Kyrgios is through into his second Wimbledon quarter-final and the first in eight years! The Aussie prevailed over Brandon Nakashima 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 in three hours and 11 minutes to advance into his third Major quarter-final and the first since the 2015 Australian Open. Nick had to endure a couple of challenging encounters en route to the last eight, including the first=round struggle. A couple of days ago, the Aussie defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas after the real drama on the court. Nick struggled with shoulder pain against Brandon, taking painkillers and staying focused to bring the victory home and deliver the sixth five-setter Wimbledon win in as many matches. The Aussie fired 35 aces but took only five points more than the American. Both players earned three breaks from seven opportunities, and Nick grabbed two in the decider to make the difference.

Kyrgios was the more aggressive player on the court, keeping his tantrums down and focusing on his tennis alone to remain on the title course. Nakashima was off to a great start, settling into a fine rhythm and dropping five points behind the initial shot in the opener. The American broke at 15 in game ten to wrap up the opener in under half an hour to gain a massive boost. Brandon sprayed a forehand error at 1-1 in the second set to lose serve and push Nick ahead. Both players served well in the remaining games, and Kyrgios wrapped up the set with a service winner in game ten. The Aussie locked the overall result after only 65 minutes and was ready for more in the remaining sets. The servers were too strong in set number three, offering the returners no chances to reach deuce or break points. Nick stayed focused in the tie break and opened a 5-2 lead with powerful serves.
The Aussie fired a forehand crosscourt return at 6-2 to clinch the set and move closer to the finish line. Nakashima did not face a break point in set number four, and the pressure was on Kyrgios. The Aussie stayed in touch before losing serve twice in a row in games seven and nine to hand the set to his opponent after a wild forehand at 3-5. Brandon could not keep that level for too long, and Nick broke him at 1-1 in the decider. Kyrgios extended the lead with a backhand winner in game five that propelled him 4-1 ahead. Serving for the victory at 5-2, Nick came from 30-0 down and sealed the deal with a serve & volley combo that sent him into the quarter-final.
