World No. 55 Caroline Garcia admitted she was absolutely thrilled with her Wimbledon performance versus Emma Raducanu as she was glad that she was able to deliver on the Centre Court against a British player.
On Wednesday, Garcia saw off home favorite Raducanu 6-3 6-3 to progress into the Wimbledon third round.
In the first set, Garcia collected two breaks to get off to a strong start and take the opener.
Raducanu broke back Garcia in the sixth game of the second set to tie the set to three games apiece, before Garcia claimed back-to-back breaks in the seventh and ninth games to compete a straight-set win.
“I’m definitely very happy with my performance today,” Garcia told reporters after the match, per the WTA website. “I knew it was going to be a tough match, and to play on Centre Court is never easy for the first time. I’m really pleased with the way I played my match and I went for it.”

“Of course when you play someone who played very well in the past in this tournament, and she’s obviously very successful in big events, I know she was going to play her best today. She was on Centre Court, it’s my first time, so I was just really trying to be focused on myself, how I could prepare, and wait for the best from her and just be prepared of my game what I wanted to do, be aggressive and just try one point at a time,” Garcia added.
Now, the head-to-head between Garcia and Raducanu stands at 1-1.
Garcia got her revenge for the loss she suffered to Raducanu in Indian Wells earlier this season.
Garcia now has a good chance to reach the Wimbledon round-of-16 as she plays next Zhang Shuai.
