Bad Homburg Open: Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep enter last-eight

Angelique Kerber, the defending champion at the Bad Homburg Open won her second-round match on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals. The German beat Lucia Bronzetti, 6-2, 6-3 in 69 minutes.

Kerber won 78% of her first-serve points to Bronzettiā€™s 70%. She also won 78% of her second-serve points to the latterā€™s 32%. The 34-year-old saved all four break points she faced while converting three of the four break points she had on the Italianā€™s serve.

The former world no. 1 will play ninth seed Alize Cornet looking for a place in the semi-finals. The Frenchwoman defeated Tatjana Maria 7-6(4), 6-4 in their round-of-16 clash.

Bad Homburg Open: Sabine Lisicki’s feel-good story

Another former world no. 1, Simona Halep also reached the quarters of the German event. The Romanian ousted Tamara Zidansek 6-0, 6-3 in 66 minutes. Halep won 91% of her first-serve points and converted five break points on the Slovenianā€™s serve.

Next up for Halep is sixth seed Amanda Anisimova who routed Ann Li in their second-round match, 6-0, 6-2.

Bianca Andreescu also won her second-round match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over qualifier Katie Swan. Andreescu will get to play the top seed Daria Kasatkina next.

Lastly, Sabine Lisickiā€™s emotional return continued at the Bad Homburg Open as the German wildcard made it through to the quarters, as well. Lisicki got past Greet Minnen 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in an hour and 53 minutes. Lisicki will take on Caroline Garcia next.
