Paula Badosa comes to defence of Emma Raducanu ahead of Wimbledon

World No. 3 Paula Badosa has preached patience with Emma Raducanu as the Spaniard acknowledged that the Briton is still very young and needs more time to develop and mature.

Raducanu, 19, went from a promising teenager to a Grand Slam champion following her stunning US Open victory.

Raducanu has struggled with her game since her US Open triumph as she hasn’t won any titles since.

Also, Raducanu has struggled to stay healthy as she is often hampered by a physical issue.

The criticism on Raducanu has been mounting since the start of the season and some are going as far as calling the 19-year-old a “one-Slam wonder.”

However, there are those who still believe that Raducanu is a very talented players and that she will become a great player and accomplish many great things.

Badosa: I think people have to stop putting all this pressure on Raducanu

ā€œI mean her situation is very tough and she already did amazing things in this sport at a very young age. I think most of the people are tough on her but in the other side maybe I can understand because press is press. Still, it puts so much pressure on her and she is a teenager still with so much to learn. She needs time and I think she needs more experience on Tour and she will get it but I think people have to stop putting all this pressure on her and expectations. What she did is play very, very well at one Grand Slam and she won it, so you can see how good she is but you cannot expect her to win every match and tournament because that is impossible. She needs time and she will get it because she has a lot of talent,” Badosa said, as quoted on Tennis365.

Meanwhile, Badosa is set to kick off her grass season this week in Eastbourne.

Badosa is the top seeded player in Eastbourne and she has a first round bye.
