World No. 4 Ons Jabeur is confident she can play well on grass as she is hoping to bounce back from a French Open disappointment with a strong Wimbledon result.Ā
After winning Madrid and finishing runner-up in Rome, Jabeur entered the French Open as one of the top candidates for the titles.Ā
However, Jabeur’s French Open title chances were short-lived as she suffered a shock defeat to Marta Linette in the first round.Ā
Jabeur enjoyed a strong grass season last year, winning Birmingham and making the Wimbledon quarterfinal.Ā
“If you believe you can play good on grass, then you can,” Jabeur told WTA insider. “If you have a hate relationship with grass, then it’s not going to help. I think grass could suit a lot of players. For example, players who hit flat and hard, it’s tough to return the balls. Other players, like myself, who change the rhythm, they slice, they make you visit all the corners of the court, they can play really good on grass. So you need to be ready on your legs and prepare your reaction very well.”Ā
Jabeur aims a strong Wimbledon resultĀ
Jabeur captured her maiden WTA 1000 title in Madrid and now she is a top-5 player.Ā
In the rest of 2022, Jabeur would certainly like to win her maiden Grand Slam.Ā
This week in Berlin, Jabeur is the top seeded player as she opens her grass season by playing Karolina Muchova in the Berlin first round.Ā
“Wimbledon is one of my main goals that I put in my mind from the beginning of the year. It feels good to be back on a surface that I love so much. I try to put off the pressure a little bit. Being seeded No. 1 here didn’t help much. Didn’t expect that, to be honest with you.”
