Casper Ruud reflects on his French Open campaign after losing final to Rafael Nadal

Casper Ruud didn’t win his maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open but still he was glad with the fortnight he had at the tournament.

Ruud, 23, didn’t stand a chance versus Rafael Nadal in the French Open final as the Spaniard claimed a dominant 6-3 6-3 6-0 victory.

Ruud was able to avoid Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev in his part of the draw.

Ruud made the most out of a favorable draw and reached the French Open final.

In the French Open final, Ruud faced the toughest possible test on clay – facing Nadal.

En route to reaching the French Open final, Ruud claimed victories over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Emil Ruusuvuori, Lorenzo Sonego, Hubert Hurkacz, Holger Rune and Marin Cilic.

Ruud on his French Open campaign

“Well, I think what I can say was that I was able to do well these two weeks was to kind of take care of the chances I got and see the oportunity. Because when the draw was made, everyone was talking about the upper side of the draw and how sort of open the second half could be comparing to like the big names who were on the top draw. Rafa, of course, Novak, Zverev, and Alcaraz were all placed in the top part. In the other part there was no one who had won here obviously, I think. I kind of realized early this is a good chance to go maybe far if I’m playing well and that there can be chances for me. I was able to take care of those chances,” Ruud explained, per Musab Abid.

Last year, Ruud won four titles on clay.

Ruud was impressive on clay last year and many tipped him to reach a French Open in the near future.

This year, Ruud came to Paris determined to reach his Grand Slam final and he managed to do so.
