Russian tennis star Daria Kasatkina has signed up to play Hamburg, the tournament announced.
Kasatkina, 25, has no previous appearances in Hamburg and she will be making her debut at the German clay court event this July.
Kasatkina maybe has never played in Hamburg but she is looking forward to competing there as other players have told some great things about the tournament.
“I have heard great things from other players about last year’s edition of the WTA tournament in Hamburg and I am aware of the amazing history of this place dating back to the 19th century. Many legends have lifted the trophy here. I am really looking forward to come to the cool city of Hamburg, I will try to explore it if I have any time off,” Kasatkina said, per the tournament’s website.
The Hamburg organizers thrilled to have Kasatkina
Kasatkina has four WTA titles to her name and she was once a top-10 player.
“I saw Daria back in 2016 at our tournaments in Nuremberg and Linz. She was already a huge talent and very outgoing and likeable. I’m really excited about her dream run in Paris! Hamburg’s fans can look forward to a player with a great personality and a very compelling, dynamic style of play,” said tournament director Sandra Reichel.
Kasatkina is enjoying success this clay season as she reached the French Open quarterfinal.
“If we talk about me changing in the past six years, honestly I don’t remember myself six years ago. But watching the matches from the past I can see that I’m making a bit better decisions in the important moments. Physically, I think I become better, I’m improving, I’m working a lot. So I think from my point of view this is the main changes,” Kasatkina said.
Hamburg takes place after Wimbledon and Kasatkina will likely have time to prepare well for the event.
Kasatkina and the rest of Russian players were banned from competing at Wimbledon.
