Events in Merida, Mexico and Austin, Texas created some surprise results and big moves in this week’s ATP rankings. Below see which players are climbing…
Navarro Back to Career-High No.8
Emma Navarro handed a double-bagel to Colombia’s Emiliana Arango in Sunday’s final in Merida, and rises to No.8 in the rankings, back to her career-high. The American claimed her second and biggest career title, and dropped just 15 games in her four matches.
She is the fifth WTA player to hand out a double bagel in a final since 2000.
Arango Jumps 53 to No.80
Sunday was a tough day at the office for Arango, but the Colombian reached her maiden WTA final from qualifying and jumps 53 spots to make her Top-100 debut this week. Nothing to hang the head over.
Avenesyan to No.39
22-year-old Russian Elina Avenesyan pushes six spots higher after reaching the semifinals in Merida. She’s up to a career-high No.39 this week.
Kessler Keeps Rising
American McCartney Kessler continued her steady rise this week, after making it to the final in Austin, where she was defeated by eventual champion Jessica Pegula. Kessler won her second WTA title in January in Hobart, and has compiled a 14-6 record on the season.
She made her Top-100 debut last August (after winning her maiden title in Cleveland), after starting 2024 outside the Top 200.
Joint, Zonmez Break New Ground
Turkey’s Zeynep Zonmez claims a career-high at No.77, while Australia’s Maya Joint rises to No.85. Zonmez reached the quarterfinals at Merida, where she won her maiden WTA title last year. Joint, one of two teenagers now inside the WTA’s Top-100 (also Mirra Andreeva), reached the quarterfinals in Merida as well.
