Karolina Muchova reveals she is being hampered with a stomach bug after scenes in the US Open quarterfinal that left many baffled and wondering what was happening with the Czech.
On Wednesday, the 28-year-old stormed to the bathroom multiple times during her match against Beatriz Haddad Maia and also had the physio twice come out to assist her.
Shortly after dominating the first set with a 6-1 scoreline, the Czech tennis star asked to exit the court for a quick toilet break. Then, she received a visit from the physio and they both left the court together. But even after that, the 2023 French Open finalist was seen holding to her stomach – had to again exit the court – and again have the physio come out to the court to give her some medication.
After sealing a 6-1 6-4 win over the 22nd-seeded Brazilian, Muchova apologized to the US Open crowd but didn’t share what was the issue.
Muchova: I’m fighting a bug, I had no other choice…
āYeah, I’m fighting bug a little bit. I’m a little sick. I hope it didn’t disturb anyone. It never happened to me before, but I really needed to go off the court when I get a chance to go. Again, I hope it didn’t disturb her, didn’t disturb the people. But I actually don’t do these things, I don’t like to do it, but I had no other choice than to take, yeah, use a bathroom. That’s it,” the former world No. 7 explained in her presser.

Meanwhile, the unseeded Czech is set to be back in action on Thursday when she takes on Jessica Pegula in the US Open semifinal. Before Pegula beat Iga Swiatek to set up that semifinal, the 2023 French Open finalist revealed that the Polish world No. 1 was supporting her while she was out for 10 months due to wrist surgery.
“She really supported me when I got the surgery. It’s always nice to get that support, especially from her being World No. 1, I think, the best player that there is,” Muchova said of Swiatek.
