Elina Svitolina is putting an end to her 2024 season as the Ukrainian tennis star wants to rest and also focus on recovering from her injuries and returning to being fully healthy for the next season.
After launching her post-pregnancy comeback in 2023 April, the 2023 Wimbledon semifinalist made a very successful return but also picked up some injuries and didn’t play any tournaments after the final Grand Slam of the year.
This year, the 17-time WTA champion started her season on time but battled injuries since the beginning of the year after sustaining a back issue at the Australian Open. That back injury hampered Svitolina throughout the year and it also led to the Ukrainian experiencing issues with her hip and some other parts of the lower body.
During this past North American swing the world No. 28 appeared in four tournaments but went just 6-4 without making any notable results as her US Open run ended in the third round with a loss to Coco Gauff.

Svitolina won’t play again in 2024
“I had a good season, I already finished it because I got injured. To finish this year in the top 30 is a good result, considering that I was injured more [of the time] this season. The Olympics went well. Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring home a medal, but there were great victories. Did I manage to approach the Games at the peak of my form, given the injury? No, I didn’t manage to do so at the peak,” the 29-year-old told sport.ua.
Apart from finishing as runner-up in Auckland and being a quarterfinalist, the former world No. 3 didn’t achieve much success in 2024 – but injuries were a big reason why.
āI didn’t play as I wanted in the following tournaments because I was injured. I wanted more, I wanted to play better. Now I will treat my injuries. I hope that I can start my next season better,” Svitolina said.
