Coach Patrick Mouratoglou believes Coco Gauff could do more major things in the near future as Serena Williams’ former coach thinks the 19-year-old “has more confidence in her game and ability to win Slams” since winning the US Open. Gauff, who is currently enjoying a career-high ranking of No 3 in the world, became a Grand Slam champion at this year’s US Open after beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Previewing the 2024 season, Mouratoglou is excited about Naomi Osaka returning and believes the four-time Grand Slam champion could do big things in her post-pregnancy comeback. After mentioning Osaka, Mouratoglou named Gauff as someone who could very easily add more Slams to her name in 2024. Also, Mouratoglou highlighted that the likes of Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina will also be strong contenders for Slam titles.
Mouratoglou: Gauff now has more confidence in her game
āYou have Coco, being now a Grand Slam winner, you can feel that she has more confidence in her game and her ability to win majors. So this is going to be exciting. And of course, I don’t forget all the other ones, Swiatek, Sabalenka, Rybakina, who dominated last year until Coco really came out. So they will be there too. There’s going to be a great competition between amazing players. I think itās going to bring a lot of more excitement in women’s tennis next year,” Mouratoglou told Eurosport. After accomplishing her goal of winning a Grand Slam at the US Open, Gauff underlined that her next goal is to win more of those. “To keep winning more of these. That would be the biggest goal. I’m not going to put a number (on) how many I want to win. But as many as I can,” Gauff told The Associated Press after her US Open win. In January, Gauff will be looking to win her first Australian Open and clinch back-to-back Slam titles.
