Instead, Borna produced a fine hold at the beginning of the second set and broke Novak from his only opportunity in the next one to find himself 2-0 in front. The Croat missed a game point in game three and lost serve to bring the Serb back to the positive side.

They served well in the next seven games, locking the result at 5-5 and moving closer to a tie break. Gojo wasted a game point and lost serve at the worst moment to fall 6-5 behind, allowing Djokovic to serve for the set. Novak held at 15 to forge two sets to love advantage, moving closer to the finish line and a place in the last eight. Gojo saved a break point in the third set’s third game and stayed in touch until 3-3. Novak kept the pressure on the other side and delivered a crucial break in game seven that propelled him closer to the top. Gojo denied a match point on his serve in game nine, reducing the gap to 4-5 before Djokovic sealed the deal on his serve in game ten.
