Roger Federer will be present as a guest star at the upcoming Laver Cup 2023, in Vancouver, Canada. The Swiss Maestro is the co-founder of the competition between Team World and Team Europa.
Federer retired at the 2022 Laver Cup and, exactly one year after the retirement of the legendary champion, winner of 20 Grand Slam titles, and spoke of the cultural melting pot, with players from different countries, like himself, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
The Swiss tennis legend said to the Laver Cup website: “We started discussing how I think it would be great to have the best players get together and also have a place where the former greats can reunite and have a role to play. For me, it personally completely exceeded expectations.
Obviously also a little bit nostalgic for me to retire at The O2, where I did play a lot of my matches. Seeing the camaraderie, people from different countries coming together in a team, like me and Rafa or me and Novak, has been wonderful.”

Now it’s official, the news was in the air but now it’s confirmed: Roger Federer will attend the event and in the last few hours he has released interesting statements regarding the Laver Cup.
The Swiss legend said: “I am very happy and excited to be here. It will be a short but very nice competition, three days full of action. Three days where we will see many good matches. I am enthusiastic and curious about the doubles, this competition often offers new teams and maybe, for one, I’d like to see a double composed of Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev. Then in the rest of the world there are many interesting names, Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe or Taylor Fritz and they can play several doubles like authentic superstars.”
Speaking about his relationship with tennis Roger continued: “I like being in this sphere and who knows maybe one day I will be the captain of one of the two teams. There are no plans for now, but I think it could be very nice.”
Roger Federer is one of the founders of this competition, born together with his agent Tony Godsick’s idea: “For me personally this competition has exceeded expectations. I would never have thought of playing in Geneva and obviously I am nostalgic thinking about the day of my retirement. Seeing people from different countries come together in one team, even me, Rafa and Novak, was wonderful. Then to see Borg and McEnroe commit to this role has been wonderful over the years.”
