Ons Jabeur called Coco Gauff’s US Open win “amazing” and revealed she used to “always say” the American was going to win a Slam one day. Gauff, 19, won her first Grand Slam title following a straight-set win over Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final. Although Gauff is just 19, she has been around for several years now and she was widely tipped to win a Slam one day. āIāve always said Coco will win her Grand Slam one day. Itās amazing to see that sheās playing good. And most importantly, sheās having fun on the court. Thatās really amazing,” Jabeur said of Gauff becoming a Grand Slam champion.

Jabeur still hoping for her first Grand Slam win
Jabeur, 29, made three Grand Slam finals in a period of 12 months but she is still without a Slam title. After losing to Elena Rybakina in the 2022 Wimbledon final and also ending on the losing side to Iga Swiatek in the 2022 US Open final, Jabeur made her third Slam final at this year’s Wimbledon. In the 2023 Wimbledon final, Jabeur suffered a surprise defeat to Marketa Vondrousova and afterward she looked visibly crushed and devastated. At the US Open then, Jabeur made the round-of-16 before losing to Zheng Qinwen. Last month, Jabeur was asked about a Slam winning not happening to her already. “Rafa once said ‘If, if, if, doesn’t exist.’ So for me, ‘if I did this, if I did that,’ I’m not going to focus with that. I’m just focusing on what’s happening right now. Again, if it doesn’t happen at the US Open, I’m not going to be sad about it. I’m just going to keep trying. If it’s going to work, then great, if not, then I believe that’s my destiny. What’s supposed to happen to me, it’s something I cannot change. That’s the beauty of it when you believe in it. As long as I’m doing my best, as long as I’m doing 100 percent, I think that’s fair,” Jabeur said in Cincinnati.
