Injured Paula Badosa shares message amid rough last couple of months

Paula Badosa admits being away from tennis for an extended period has been “really tough” but remains hopeful that this adversity and challenge will only make her stronger. In May, Badosa sustained a spinal stress fracture during one of her Rome matches. For Badosa, it was a devastating setback as that injury forced her to miss the French Open. Badosa managed to return at Wimbledon but it didn’t go really well since she won one match before retiring injured in her second-round match. Badosa didn’t manage to recover in time for the US Open, and when that happened, the former world No 2 decided to end her 2023 season. “One of my favorite picsā€¦ Iā€™ve never missed something more than this sport. Since Iā€™m a little girl Iā€™ve never experienced so many months away from it. All this time off I realize that setbacks are part life and itā€™s a way to learn and grow. Itā€™s really tough being away for so long but hopefully sooner than later Iā€™m that little girl playing and enjoying it again,” Badosa wrote on Instagram.

Badosa ended her 2023 season at the US Open

After skipping all tournaments leading up to the US Open, Badosa came to New York with the intention to play. But then just before the start of the tournament, Badosa announced she would not be able to play. “Hello everyone, I wanted to update you on my situation with the injury. After struggling for many months to compete again, I am ending my season. Those of you who know me know how much I like to compete and how difficult it has been to make this decision. We have tried everything together with my team but the pain is not letting me move forward. Thanks to the people who are still by my side in these hard times. See you next year, stronger than ever,” Badosa announced on Instagram just before the start of the US Open.
