Carlos Alcaraz amuses the crowd at the US Open by singing in the on court interview, under the funny gaze of Sebastian Yatra.
The defense of the title in New York begins in a decidedly easy way for Carlitos who plays practically a set and a half on the Arthur Ashe Stadium before taking advantage of his opponent’s withdrawal. The match changes completely in the first game: Dominik Koepfer gets a bad ankle sprain at 40-40 but still tries to continue.
The German fights despite the serious injury but is naturally forced to take risks and shorten the exchange as soon as he has the opportunity. The Spanish number one controls the situation and then proceeds quickly towards the first set (6-2). The 29-year-old almost always hits a winner to try and play, but the pain doesn’t lessen as the minutes go by. On the 3-2 of the second set Koepfer decides to retire.
During the on court interview, Carlitos amused the crowd, improvising a singing performance, under the amused gaze of Sebastian Yatra.

The other matches
Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils are off to a good start, all winning their respective matches in three sets. John Isner gives himself at least one more singles match after the victory over Diaz Acosta, while Hubert Hurkacz is forced to put in a super performance to come back from 0-2 against the Swiss Huesler.
Jannik Sinner proves to be concentrated, obtaining the largest victory of his career in a Grand Slam tournament on his debut: only 5 games conceded by the South Tyrolean in the whole match to the German Yannick Hanfmann, despite having spent 2 hours and 18 minutes on the pitch .
The Italian tennis player is convincing from many points of view and takes home access to the second round, which corresponds to facing a new all-Italian challenge against Lorenzo Sonego on Thursday.
Lorenzo Sonego also makes the best of him and wins the pass for the second round at the end of a good test on field 6. The Italian rules without too many problems the American Nicolas Moreno de Alboran in three sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-2) and is now preparing to battle with his countryman friend.
