Alize Cornet led Frenchwomen in the Ladies Open Lausanne draw into the quarter-finals on Thursday. The veteran defeated local hope Jil Teichmann 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 in a match that lasted a little over two hours.
Teichmann won 56% of her first-serve points to Cornet’s 55%. However, the latter won 50% of her second-serve points and 61% points on return on the Swiss’ second serve. Both players combined to create 19 break points. Cornet went on to convert six of the 12 break points that came her way while saving four of the nine break points she faced. For the match, Cornet won six more points than her opponent’s 66.
This is the second quarter-final for this season for the 33-year-old who reached the quarter-finals of the Rothesay Open in Nottingham, during the grass season. In that tournament, Cornet also reached the semi-finals. Now, looking to emulate that result, the seventh seed will play fellow Frenchwoman, Diane Parry.
Ladies Open Lausanne: Emma Navarro exits
The ninth-seeded Parry beat Danka Kovinic 6-4, 7-5 in their round-of-16 match-up. Parry needed an hour and 48 minutes to get the win.
Of the two players, the Montenegrin won a higher margin of first-serve points, 80% to her opponent’s 77%. However, Parry won 66% points on return on Kovinic’s serve while winning 67% of her second-serve points. The world no. 90 saved two of the three break points she faced while converting three break points on her opponent’s serve.
The last French player to reach the quarters was Clara Burel. Burel upset fifth seed Emma Navarro 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 18 minutes. Burel saved eight of the 10 break points she faced and converted six of the eight break points she had on the American’s serve.
Burel will now play Ana Bogdan. The third-seeded Romanian beat Dalila Jakupovic 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 in two hours and 23 minutes to reach the quarter-finals.
Lastly, Tamara Zidansek also made it to the quarter-finals of the Ladies Open Lausanne. The Slovenian won 6-3, 7-5 in an hour and 53 minutes against Spaniard, Sara Sorribes Tormo.
