Grigor Dimitrov acknowledged Holger Rune is a great talent ahead of their Wimbledon match but admitted he doesn’t know much about the 20-year-old’s game. Dimitrov, 32, is set to meet 20-year-old Rune in the Wimbledon round-of-16, in what will be their first-ever meeting on the Tour. At just 20, Rune is already a Masters champion and he is ranked inside the top-10 in the world. Dimitrov, a 2014 Wimbledon semifinalist, is more experienced on the grass but Rune has proved that he is not afraid of going up against the world’s best players.
āYeah, I think we have had a few hits. Obviously, yeah, not that many. I think heās fairly young if you think about it. Yeah, I mean, we hit a few times. I think obviously heās already done so well and heās been playing, you know, amazing tennis over the past couple of years. You know, strong kid with quite a few good weapons. Itās a great matchup for me. Iām really looking forward to that. I just want to get out there and do my thing. Iām not gonna treat this match as any other match,” Dimitrov said of facing Rune.
Dimitrov on what’s Rune’s biggest weapon
Going into the match, Dimitrov respects Rune’s game but claims he doesn’t really know what’s the Dane’s biggest weapon.
āTo be honest, I havenāt seen enough of him to state something like that. Overall he seems like a pretty complete player with all the shots and all that. I havenāt had like much time to really like study his game to that extent, Okay, this is his best, or anything like that. As I said, also, you know, youāre excited, youāre just started on tour, so there is a lot of things that have been going your way and doing them the right and the good things,” Dimitrov said.
It remains to be seen if Dimitrov can beat Rune and reach his first Wimbledon quarterfinal since 2014.
