Bianca Andreescu described Ons Jabeur as “a very nice person” as she is now rooting for the Tunisian to go all the way at Wimbledon. Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, exited Wimbledon in the third round after Jabeur handed her a 3-6 6-3 6-4 loss. After the match, Andreescu showed her class by speaking extremely highly of 28-year-old Jabeur.
“She has a great game on any surface, actually. Like I played her on hard, practiced with her on clay, now I played her on grass again. She’s an all-around player. She can kind of do everything. If I had to choose a player to lose to, it would be her. Also because she’s very nice (smiling). Yeah, she’s just great. I really hope she does well in this tournament,” Andreescu said after losing to Jabeur at Wimbledon.
Andreescu fell short to Jabeur in three sets
Going into the match, Andreescu was the underdog against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Jabeur. But Andreescu came out playing courageous tennis and she claimed an early break in the fourth game. Up by a break, Andreescu routinely held on to her serve for the remainder of the first set to clinch the opener. After winning the first set, Andreescu had a break point in the first game of the second set but didn’t realize it. In the sixth game, Jabeur collected her first break of the match to open a 4-2 lead in the second set. That break of serve was enough for Jabeur, who served out for the second set in the ninth game. In the third set, Andreescu made the first move as she had a 3-1 lead. But then, Jabeur got the break back in the fifth game and saved two break points in the sixth game to tie the decider to three games apiece. Jabeur broke Andreescu again in the ninth game for a 5-4 lead, before serving out for the match in the following game.
