Holger Rune: “I want to win a Slam”

The adventure of the young talent Holger Rune continues at the Internazionali d’Italia in Rome. The young Dane is, after the number one Carlos Alcaraz, the most interesting youngster on the Tour and always on the hunt for further growth.

In the second round of the match in Rome, Rune defeated opponent and the crowd against, in the Grand Stand challenge against Fabio Fognini, annihilated with a sharp 6-2 6-4.

After the match Holger spoke to Tennis Channel and clarified his feelings, here are his words: “Here in Rome I feel good, my level is improving more and more and I can say that I am improving match after match.

Right now I’m doing everything possible to get to the Roland Garros in the best possible way and from this point of view Rome can really help me a lot. There is great energy here. There was a crazy atmosphere, the crowd was incredible, especially towards the end of the first set. It’s more fun for me to play like this than without a crowd, Fognini is also great. Tennis needs characters like him, he takes tennis to another level.”

The tennis player then continued: “I’m still part of his academy and whenever I need to, I go to him. For example, this week he’s here with my trainer and my mother. I’m happy with my team, it’s a perfect team.

Future Big Three? It’s exciting all of this, that’s for sure. It would be funny if there were Big Three in the future. I try to focus on myself, I don’t need others to improve. It’s great that Alcaraz has already won a Grand Slam title, he and Sinner are great players and we’ve already had great battles.

Goals? I already won a Masters 1000 in Paris but now I want to win a Grand Slam title. I know it’s not easy and it doesn’t necessarily happen but it’s my goal and I’ll try until the end. IĀ feel great physically and I’m looking forward to doing well this season.”
