A dubious call was enough to suddenly ignite the match between Mikael Ymer and Arthur Fils at the ATP 250 tournament in Lyon. The Swede asked the chair umpire several times to leave his post to check the mark left by the ball on the court, but the latter did not deem it necessary to carry out a further check and was sure of his call.
Ymer loses his mind and is disqualified
Ymer subsequently lost her serve at 5-5 due to a clumsy attempt at serve & volley and he vented all his frustration by violently hitting the umpire’s chair several times with his racket, totally destroyed.
The chair umpire could do nothing but end the match and disqualify the Swede, who left Center Court amidst boos. The episode recalled what happened in Acapulco in 2022. On that occasion, during the doubles match with Marcelo Melo, Alexander Zverev insulted the referee and repeatedly hit his chair, violently. The German finally received the immediate disqualification also in singles.
What a dramatic ending to a fascinating contest…

It is not the first controversial situation to arise in Lyon this week. The words used by Marton Fucsovics during the match with Sebastian Baez caused a lot of discussion. The Hungarian didn’t welcome the Argentine’s behavior and crossed the line.
The expert Hungarian tennis player, evidently annoyed by the provocative and unsportsmanlike attitude of his opponent, at one point decided to say a word to him. “How old are you, 12?!” Fucsovics told Baez, who sarcastically replied with: “No, 22.”
Fucsovics then began to rant against the ArgentineĀ calling him aĀ childĀ and comparing him to other peers, according to him equally incorrect. “You yell ‘Vamos’ at every point I get wrong,” continued Fucsovics, who then let slip a few too many offenses like:Ā “Screaming like a bit*h!”Ā forcing the chair judge to intervene not only to calm spirits but also to call the Hungarian to order, inviting him to use language in keeping with the regulations.
Fucsovics then apologizing publicly.
