Watch: Elena Rybakina’s classy act after beating Jule Niemeier in Stuttgart

Elena Rybakina handled the business against Jule Niemeier in Stuttgart and afterward showed her classy side by praising the German’s trick shot.

On Wednesday, sixth-seeded Rybakina saw off Niemeier 7-5 6-3.

At the start of the fourth game of the second set, Niemeier pulled off a successful tweener on Rybakina.

“And especially tweener – I wasn’t ready – it was really nice from her,” Rybakina said after the match.

In the first set – no break points were seen until the 12th game – when Rybakina broke Niemeier in the critical moments to win the opener.

After winning a tight first set, Rybakina got broken in the first game of the second set.

However, Rybakina was able to turn around the second-set deficit as she broke Niemeier in the sixth and eighth games and complete a two-set win.

ā€œIn the second set, I was rushing a bit. It was a break straight away so it wasnā€™t easy. In the end I found my game, the serve helped me a lot. I think Jule played really well today, especially the tweener, it was really nice from her,” Rybakina said after the match, via The Tennis Letter.

Earlier in the day, fifth-seeded Cori Gauff was also in action.

For Gauff, it was a tough day at the office but the American managed to edge out 13th-ranked Veronika Kudermetova 6-2 4-6 7-6 (3).

“That was a close one. I had opportunities in that match. I mean, again, I’m not expecting an easy match. She’s been playing better and better each week. I think that I’m just going to have to keep that aggressive mindset, especially against her, someone who can come up with some big shots,” Gauff said.

In the Stuttgart round-of-16, Gauff will be playing against Anastasia Potapova.

Meanwhile, Rybakina will be taking on Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Rybakina and Gauff could potentially meet in the Stuttgart semifinal.
