Teenage sensation Linda Fruhvirtova says being around No 50 is “not a big deal” to her because she has far bigger goals.
Fruhvirtova, who is just 17 years old, is ranked at No 53 in the world.
After reaching her first Grand Slam round-of-16 at this year’s Australian Open, Fruhvirtova also achieved a career-high ranking of No 51 in the world.
But reaching a Grand Slam round-of-16 and being around No 50 is not a big deal to Fruhvirtova, who has been tipped by many to win multiple Grand Slams and reach the world No 1 ranking.
“To be honest I didnāt think of the Australian Open as a big deal, or to be ranked around 50 is a big deal because itās not where I want to go. I want to go further. Of course it was a great success but I want to keep improving. This is not where I want to stop, I want to keep going higher, so thatās my mindset that thereās still a long way to go,” Fruhvirtova told Tennis Majors.
Fruhvirtova learning and gaining experience
This week, Fruhvirtova made her Indian Wells main draw debut.
After beating Mayar Sherif in the first round, Fruhvirtova fell short to Anhelina Kalinina in a tight three-setter in her next match.
Now, Fruhvirtova is 6-5 on the season.
But Fruhvirtova is looking at the bigger picture and the most important thing for her right now is to continue to learn and gain experience.
“Definitely I am still pretty new to the tour, this will be my first full year on the womenās tour, and yes, I think you really have to adapt to the womenās game because itās different than the juniors and I think definitely some matches that I lost really helped me to win some more important ones. Itās just getting those experiences and playing these big matches on big stages, against great players, itās definitely something and still is something that I need,” Fruhvirtova explained.
