Bianca Andreescu sets eyes on more Grand Slam, WTA 1000 success

Bianca Andreescu, 22, admits one of her big goals is to “very soon” win another Grand Slam or WTA 1000 title.

In 2019, Andreescu enjoyed a breakthrough season on the WTA Tour, winning three titles that year.

Back then, Andreescu became a Grand Slam champion at the US Open and also won WTA 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Toronto.

But since then, Andreescu hasn’t won any WTA titles.

However, it should be noted that Andreescu had breaks to address injuries and mental health issues.

ā€œI feel like my momentum throughout my matches has been pretty consistent. Iā€™m not winning all the time, but I also feel like ā€“ just Iā€™m feeling good. I donā€™t want to put any pressure on myself. Whenever it comes, it comes. But I would like to win very, very soon, if possible, another Grand Slam, another 1000 event. Hopefully itā€™s here,” Andreescu said, per Tennis Majors.

Meanwhile, Andreescu made a positive start to her campaign at a WTA 1000 event in Miami.

On Wednesday, Andreescu saw off Emma Raducanu 6-3 3-6 6-2 in the Miami first round.

Raducanu, who also became a Grand Slam champion at the US Open in 2021, hasn’t won any titles since.

But after the Miami first round, Andreescu spoke extremely highly of Raducanu and tipped the 72nd-ranked Briton to return to the top-10.

ā€œI think sheā€™s playing great tennis. Honestly, itā€™s super nice to see that because she hasnā€™t been playing that much. Injuries, this and that. I can relate in a way. I mean, not at that scale, but, Iā€™m really happy that sheā€™s back at it and playing like this. If she continues playing like this, she can definitely get back into the top 10,” Andreescu said of Raducanu.

Andreescu and Raducanu were playing against each other for the second time.

Last year, Andreescu was up by a set in Rome when Raducanu retired their match.
