Monica Puig: Emma Raducanu already did something that not many can do

Monica Puig thinks Emma Raducanu “just needs to settle” as she believes the 2021 US Open champion has the talent to win more Grand Slam titles.

Raducanu, 20, stunningly won the 2021 US Open as a qualifier.Ā

But since then, Raducanu hasn’t won any titles and some are going as far as calling the Briton “a one-Slam wonder.”

“Absolutely! She’s still young. It’s a matter of time. We’re always seeing generational changes with so players like myself and Serena Williams having now stepped away. The new generation that’s going to come and carry the torch for the future generation. Yes, she is going to be in that circle of names that are going to be a force to be reckoned with. She just needs to settle, find her ground and take the pressure and expectation off because she already did something that not many people can do. Remember the reason why you started playing tennis in the first place. It’s because of the love of the sport,” Puig told Sky Sports.Ā

Puig believes Raducanu can win more Grand SlamsĀ

When Raducanu won the US Open, she was playing just her second Grand Slam.Ā

Then in 2022, Raducanu had her first full season on the WTA Tour.Ā

Last year, Raducanu went through a lot of challenges and adversity.Ā

But 2022 was meant to be a learning experience for Raducanu.Ā

After the 2022 season finished, Raducanu had a much clearer picture of what she needed to improve.Ā

In the offseason, Raducanu put a major emphasis on getting stronger as she realized that being strong and fit is one of the keys to enjoying success on the Tour.Ā

Also, Raducanu started working with Belinda Bencic’s ex-coach Sebastian Sachs in the offseason.Ā

Raducanu recently confirmed that she is happy with Sachs as her coach and also said she is confident he can help her elevate her game.
