Michael Mmoh after stunning Alexander Zverev at AO: Life is crazy, this is insane

Michael Mmoh couldn’t hide his happiness after stunning Alexander Zverev as he described his Australian Open second-round win over the German as “crazy and insane.”

Zverev, who made the Australian Open main draw as a lucky loser, stunned 12th-seeded Zverev 6-7 (1) 6-4 6-3 6-2 to progress into the Australian Open third round.

“Wow, this is the biggest win of my career without a doubt. Life is crazy, this is insane,” Mmoh said, per AFP.

On the other side, Zverev wasn’t negative or pessimistic about the loss as he noted that he didn’t expect himself to be at his best after just returning from a six-month injury break.

“I didn’t have any expectations. I didn’t have any goals, and it was a good test for me. I played a five-setter (in the first round), and I know where I am physically. That’s about it. I guess I still have a long way back to where I was,” Zverev said after losing to Mmoh.

How Mmoh defeated Zverev

After losing a tight first set, Mmoh started the second set with an early break in the first game.

Zverev got the break back in the fourth game, but Mmoh broke the German again in the fifth game.

Then, Mmoh held on to his serve the rest of the set to tie the match to one set apiece.

In the third set, Zverev had a 3-2 lead before Mmoh earned back-to-back breaks to win four games in a row and go up by two sets to one.

After winning the third set, Mmoh also started the fourth set with a 2-0 lead.

Down by a set and a break, Zverev refused to quit as he got the break back to tie the fourth set to two games apiece.

Unfortunately for Zverev, he didn’t win a game in the rest of the match as Mmoh claimed back-to-back breaks in the sixth and eighth games to complete a four-set win.
