Jannik Sinner after another devastating Grand Slam exit: I messed up

Jannik Sinner admitted he “messed up” in the fifth set of his Australian Open round-of-16 match against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Sinner, seeded at No 15, suffered another devastating Grand Slam loss in the latter stages as Tsitsipas handed him a 6-4 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-3 loss.

After winning the third and fourth sets, Sinner allowed Tsitsipas three consecutive break points in the fourth game of the fifth set – he did manage to save them.

But two games later, Sinner again allowed Tsitsipas three consecutive break points and this time the Greek converted to go up by a break.

Sinner didn’t manage to recover from a break down and that’s how his Australian Open campaign came to an end.

ā€œItā€™s tough right now for sure. Itā€™s a tough loss for sure. I have to go practice again but these kind of matches can go one way and the other. I had the momentum, I messed it up a little, didnā€™t serve as well in the fifth set and the momentum changed. Just a couple of misses and the match changed fast. Tough, again. Donā€™t have words right now. He served well (on break points). I think I made the right choices but missed the shots. He served well and it was just a close match,” Sinner said, per TennisĀ Majors.

Sinner again suffers a devastating Australian Open loss

Last year, Sinner made the Australian Open quarterfinal before losing to Tsitsipas in three sets.

At Wimbledon, Sinner was up by two sets before Novak Djokovic stormed back to win their quarterfinal match.

In the US Open quarterfinal, Sinner missed out on a match point before losing to Carlos Alcaraz.

Now, Sinner again suffered a tight defeat in the latter stages of a Grand Slam.

Sinner is constantly putting himself in a position to play in the latter stages of Grand Slams but when the time comes for him to make a big breakthrough, he fails to do so.
