Petra Kvitova believes it is “great for tennis” that Novak Djokovic is back in Australia and allowed to start his 2023 season on time.
12 months ago, Djokovic’s visa was canceled and he was deported from Australia.
This week, Djokovic landed in Adelaide, where he is set to participate at the Adelaide International.
After Adelaide, Djokovic will try to win a record 10th Australian Open title.
“Well, I didn’t see him yet, but I think it was a big issue last year, of course. We probably don’t know the inside of all the things was happening last year. But definitely I think that it’s great that he is back here playing, because of the great player he is. I think it’s a great for tennis that he is back in the big competitions. Yeah, I think it’s always great to have the best, so yeah,” Kvitova said.
Kvitova, Alex de Minaur thrilled for Djokovic
De Minaur, the second highest-ranked Australian male tennis player, agreed with Kvitova that having Djokovic in Australia is a positive thing for tennis.
“Yeah, it’s great to have him back. Obviously as any athlete, you want to be competing against the best in the world. It’s good to have him back. Ultimately as an athlete you don’t want to be winning matches when the best in the world aren’t playing. So it’s great to have the competition back, great to see him back. I think Australia will be happy to see him back,” de Minaur said.
On Tuesday, Djokovic arrived in Adelaide.
Since then, Djokovic has had practice sessions and everything is ready for the Serb to kick off his season at the Adelaide International.
Djokovic will probably feel extra emotions in his return to Australia but still many believe he is the one that will enjoy the most success at the start of the new season.
