Nick Kyrgios explains how his girlfriend Costen Hatzi affects his tennis

Nick Kyrgios says his girlfriend Costeen Hatzi deserves a ton of credit for his career-best season in 2022.

Kyrgios, 27, played the tennis of his life this year.

At the start of the 2022 season, Kyrgios became a Grand Slam champion after he captured the Australian Open doubles title with Thanasi Kokkinakis.

In the summer, Kyrgios made his first Grand Slam singles final as he reached the Wimbledon final before losing to Novak Djokovic in four sets.

Kyrgios, who captured his first ATP title since 2019 in Washington, also had notable wins over top players such as Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner.

“None of this could have been done without her,” Kyrgios told the Australian Associated Press (AAP).

Kyrgios on traveling with Hatzi: She makes me happy

In late 2021, Kyrgios and Hatzi went public with their relationship.

Throughout the entire 2022 season, Hatzi was accompanying Kyrgios in tournaments around the world.

“It’s been a very successful year, not only on the tennis court but just in general. I’m feeling really, really good about everything and just enjoying life. And meeting Costeen was probably my favourite moment, probably the best thing that’s happened to me – and the year I’ve had as a highly motivated and highly pushed player, has been because of her. That’s been my favourite experience. I just feel happier off the court, really just trying to be happy off the court – and that shows up on the court too. She’s just the best thing ever and just makes me feel amazing, believes in my tennis and believes in me off the court too. We have such a good relationship,” Kyrgios said.

Last January, Kyrgios won the Australian Open doubles title in his first tournament with Hatzi sitting in his box.

This upcoming January, Kyrgios will be aiming to win his first Grand Slam singles title at Melbourne Park.
