Pegula was one of the most consistent WTA players in 2022
After Iga Swiatek, Pegula was the most consistent WTA player in 2022.
Even though Pegula won just one title this year, she was regularly reaching the latter stages of tournaments.
Late in the season, Pegula became a WTA 1000 champion for the first time in her life after winning Guadalajara.
Also, Pegula achieved her career-high ranking of No 3 late in the season.
Pegula, who comes from one of the wealthiest families in the United States, has definitely earned the respect from fellow Tour colleagues.
Recently, Pegula admitted that it meant a lot to her to prove that she was more than just a rich girl from a wealthy family.
“I think it’s always something I’ve had in the back of my mind a little bit, but I think at the same time when I was younger, I would maybe try to prove myself too much. I think that would create more pressure. Over the years, I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable as far as my family or my background and stuff like that. I think maybe taking that pressure off helped me to earn my accomplishments and have people more recognize my name on the tennis court than not. So it’s definitely a very rewarding, satisfying feeling. Especially when a lot of people I know, they know me as a tennis player and a great tennis player. I think that’s always really nice to hear,” Pegula explained.
In 2023, Pegula will be aiming to win her first Grand Slam and reach the world No 1 ranking.
