Impressive Iga Swiatek wins 2022 WTA Player of the Year award

World No 1 Iga Swiatek has been named the 2022 WTA Player of the Year.

Swiatek, 21, enjoyed an astonishing season this year.

This year, Swiatek made nine finals and captured eight titles.

Swiatek’s biggest wins came at the French Open and US Open as she is now a three-time Grand Slam champion.

Also, Swiatek won four WTA 1000 titles and two WTA 500 titles.

In late February, Swiatek started a stunning winning streak that didn’t end until early July.

Between February and July, Swiatek won 37 consecutive matches – that’s a new record for the most consecutive wins on the WTA Tour in the 21st century.

Swiatek rested and ready for the 2023 season

Late in the season, Swiatek admitted that she was extremely fatigued and exhausted.

After finishing her campaign at the WTA Finals, Swiatek went on a much-deserved vacation.

Now, Swiatek has recharged her batteries and she is ready to achieve more success in 2023.

“For the first time in a long time I had the opportunity to be on holiday, where I had nothing to do. I needed it so much. Including the flights, I had six and a half days of holiday in total, but I feel refreshed. I’ve already got my inner motivation back,” Swiatek told Asics.

Swiatek, who has two French Open and one US Open title, will be aiming to win her first Australian Open title in January.

This year, Swiatek made her first Australian Open semifinal before losing to Danielle Collins.

“It’s a great city, and they always make it very comfortable for us. And getting back on tour and the first Grand Slam of the season, I’m looking forward to it already,” Swiatek told Life & Leisure.

In the previous years, Swiatek wasn’t really a top favorite for the Australian Open.

Now, she is the No 1 favorite to win the Australian Open.

It remains to be seen if Swiatek can make it all the way at Melbourne Park in January.
