Matteo Berrettini’s men’s singles adventure in the million-dollar event that is taking place in Saudi Arabia, the Diriyah Tennis Cup, which will end on Saturday 10 December, does not go beyond the first round thanks to Stan Wawrinka’s win.
Diriyah Tennis Cup: Stan Wawrinka beats Matteo Berrettini!
In the challenge with the Swiss, the first, conditioned by the super tie break format, the Italian tennis player after the initial 10-5 ends up losing the next two sets: respectively 10-4 and 10-6. A pity, given that the victory would have allowed him to detach a pass for the quarterfinals which will instead normally be played in the best of three sets with the entry of the top four seeds: Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Rublev and Fritz.
One way, that, to really test the match rhythms after a rather prolonged period of absence and full of physical problems. However, it does not end here for the blue tennis player, since he will play the doubles tournament together with the other players who lose in the first round.
