WTA has officially announced what will be the tournament schedule for the first eight months of the 2023 calendar which will start in January. Also this season there are several innovations developed by the federation with the suppression of some tournaments to the detriment of others that have been born.
As for the second part of the calendar, or from September onwards, we will have to wait a little longer. In January, in the first month of the year, we will find the first big news of the season: the United Cup.
This tournament will replace the ATP Cup and will be a mixed competition that will be useful for athletes to start programming in the best possible way. After the stop due to the pandemic, Auckland and Hobart are back in vogue.
After the first slam of the season, the 250 tournaments will be held in Huan Hin and another in Lyon.
Between changes and news in the new WTA schedule
February will also be a month of change: the 250 in Linz will be moved to the second month of the calendar, while this year there will be no tournament in St. Petersburg due to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
If March and April do not have noticeable changes compared to 2022, there is little to say even in May, although after the Internationals of Italy there will be the opportunity to play the Strasbourg and Rebat participation tournaments to get the best of the Roland Garros.
In the first summer month of the year, that is June, we will return to playing on grass and there will be six possible tournaments where you can participate including Hertogenbosch, Nottingham, Berlin, Birmingham.
The climax will come in July with the third slam of the season, or Wimbledon. The major will begin on 3 July and will last until 16. In August, the WTA Washington will no longer be held, while the two 1000s Montreal and Cincinnati will be confirmed.
These two tournaments will also be preparationĀ in view of the US Open which will begin on August 28th until September 10th. In 2023 the tennis players will try to hunt for the world number one Iga Swiatek who has largely dominated this season leaving little or more to her opponents.
The women’s season ended last week with the Wta Finals which saw Garcia surprisingly triumph in the final against Sabalenka.
