Wawrinka, 37, is set to make his second appearance at the Diriyah Tennis Cup in Saudi Arabia.
The inaugural Diriyah Tennis Cup took place in 2019 as Wawrinka was among the participants.
Back then, Wawrinka played two matches and suffered two defeats.
After losing to Monfils in his first match, Wawrinka also lost to John Isner.
Wawrinka, a former world No 3, now joins a player field that includes Daniil Medvedev, Carlos Alcaraz, Dominic Thiem and Gael Monfils.
Wawrinka to prepare in Saudi Arabia for the 2023 season
Ahead of the 2023 season, Wawrinka decided to make some changes.
Recently, Wawrinka split with coach Dani Vallverdu and hired his ex-coach Magnus Norman.
With Norman, Wawrinka won three Grand Slams and became a top-3 player.
Now that Wawrinka is maybe preparing for his final season in 2023, the Swiss wants to conclude his story with Norman in his team.
“There have been changes after the US Open. I decided to stop with Dani Vallverdu and, together with Magnus, we are looking for the best possible balance to write a final chapter. With Magnus, we want to finish writing our story together. Magnus is the one who knows my game the best, the one who has helped me the most in my career. He is the one who knows my game the best. The one who has helped me the most in my career. He will take care of the off-season and the biggest tournaments, including the Grand Slam. The rest we have to discuss,” Wawrinka explained.
Meanwhile, Wawrinka’s 2022 season is officially over.
After making the Basel quarterfinal last week, Wawrinka suffered a first-round defeat at this week’s Paris Masters.
In Paris, Wawrinka fell short in a thriller three-set battle versus Holger Rune.
